Building the perfect fire is a skill that promises a comfortable warmth with a captivating ambience, whether you are building your fire in a wood burning stove or an open fireplace. Do you want to build the perfect fire using kiln dried logs? Continue reading on how to light kiln dried logs for the best results.
Whether you want to build your fire in your wood burning stove or fireplace, you are going to need to do some preparations. Any effective fire starts with cleaning the stove of ash and debris. This ensures better airflow, while reducing the risk of potential fire hazards.
The foundation of a good fire all starts with kindling. You will want to lay down a layer of natural wood kindling at the base of your fire. This creates a powerful base for your kiln dried logs. Remember to leave some space between the kindling, allowing the air to circulate with ease.
You may want to use a piece of newspaper, rolled into a ball, under the kindling. This natural fire lighter is a short burst of hot flames, allowing the kindling to catch alight easily.
As your fire starts to take, with the flames dancing to life, add a few more pieces of kindling to the fire. We recommend placing these in a cross-cross pattern, allowing for optimum airflow, while setting the stage for your kiln dried logs.
Our kindling is made of smaller pieces of dried wood. These catch alight quickly, burn hot with a great flame, but it they are not long lasting. Once you have your kindling alight, you will want to start adding your kiln dried logs to your fire. Place up to three logs on top of the kindling. Remember when placing your logs, ensure you leave enough space for good air flow.
As your first few kiln dried logs catch alight, you will want to add some more to your fire. Whether you add another one or three logs to the fire, depending on how warm you want your home, remember to always allow plenty of space for air flow, allowing your fire to burn, while reducing the risk of it burning out.
A major benefit of using kiln dried logs as your fuel source is that these logs are Ready to Burn certified. They have a low moisture content and therefore, they offer excellent heat output with a long burn time. This means that when you use these logs, you won’t spend all your time tending to your fire.
At the same time, you will want to vigilantly monitor and add additional logs, if needed, repositioning the existing logs, to ensure you enjoy an efficient fire, warming your home.
This is our favourite part of using kiln dried logs in our home fires. Once you have mastered the art of lighting your kiln dried logs for the best results and your fire is burning nicely, you can sit back and relax, enjoying the ambience the fire provides, along with the warmth it produces, making it comfortable for you and your family.
