Are briquettes suitable for barbecues or outdoor fire pits?

Our briquettes are made using densely-pressed sawmill by-products, making them efficient, eco-friendly, and affordable. They are low in moisture, when compared to traditional firewood, burning with optimal heat output, yet with little smoke. Our briquettes are all Ready to Burn certified for use in the UK, reducing the number of unsafe gasses released into the atmosphere and air, including creosote, that is produced by wood and the leading cause of chimney fires.

What are Briquettes?

Briquettes are made from compressed combustible material. The briquettes you purchase from us are all made using sawmill by-products, including saw dust and wood chips. They are different from coal briquettes, as they are made from natural materials, without any chemicals, glues or adhesives, making them safer for you and the environment.

Briquettes come in different shapes and sizes, we supply:

  • Wood briquettes made from sawdust that come in a small brick shape
  • Hardwood Heat logs are ventilated cylinder shape
  • Pini Kay Eco Logs come in a ventilated octagon shape

While our briquettes are made from wood, there are a number of different organic products that can be used to make biomass briquettes:

  • Sawmill by-products – ninety percent of biomass briquettes are made from sawmill by-products, including wood chips, sawdust, wood shavings, and bark
  • Peat briquettes – these are made from dried peat and are exceptionally popular in Ireland. They burn at high temperatures, producing a distinct smell
  • Charcoal – charcoal briquettes are not biomass briquettes, but are worth noting. They are made from charcoal, used for heating and grilling. They produce a distinct smell, and a lot of smoke
  • Agricultural by-products – such as rice husks are now being used to create environmentally friendly briquettes

Why Should I Use Wood Briquettes?

Our wooden briquettes offer numerous outstanding benefits when compared to traditional firewood:

  • High energy density
  • Excellent heat output
  • Long burn time
  • Low moisture – our briquettes are all Ready to Burn certified for use in the UK
  • Cleaner burn
  • Easy to handle and store

Are Briquettes Suitable for Barbecues or Outdoor Fire Pits?

The easy answer is definitely! We do recommend if you want to use wood briquettes in a barbecue or open fire pit that you choose our Pini Kay Heat Logs. These briquettes do not expand as they burn, offering a roll-preventing shape. They provide the same outstanding benefits of heat logs, offering excellent heat output for barbecues or keeping you warm with an outdoor fire pit.

When buying our Pini Kay Heat Logs for your barbecue or outdoor fire pit, you can purchase them in a single box, or a pallet of ninety six bags. Each package contains twelve briquettes, weighing ten kilograms. Again, they are Ready to Burn certified, for your peace of mind.

Conclusion

Briquettes have grown in popularity, especially with UK families living in smokeless zones and those that are looking to reduce their carbon footprint. Our briquettes are made from natural wood without dangerous chemicals, adhesives, or glues, making them safe for both indoor and outdoor use.
