Can I mix briquettes with logs when burning?

Our wood briquettes are not to be confused with charcoal briquettes. When we talk about briquettes, we are talking about a wood fuel, made from compressed sawdust or wood chips, with a very low moisture content. Our selection of briquettes are all Ready to Burn certified for use in the United Kingdom.

Why You Should Be Using Briquettes

Briquettes offer numerous benefits, and can be mixed with logs when burning, if you want to reduce the number of briquettes you use each evening. They are very effective on their own, providing a fantastic heat output and long burn time, along with being:

  • Simple to use
  • Easy to store as they are a uniform shape
  • Quick lighting
  • Excellent heat output, making them more cost effective than logs
  • Odourless
  • Create very little smoke, making them ideal for smokeless zones
  • Create very little ash, reducing how much time you spend cleaning up after each fire

Our briquettes are all sustainably sourced using sawmill by-product waste, such as saw dust and wood chips. This is then compressed using specialised machines, creating a dense brick or log shaped briquette, that binds together naturally, without any chemicals, glues, or other adhesives. This means our briquettes are environmentally friendly.

Can I Mix Briquettes with Logs When Burning

While there is no reason why you cannot mix briquettes with logs when burning, you may want to stop for a second, before you proceed. Unless you have run out of briquettes, there is no reason to mix the two.

If you are mixing your briquettes with traditional firewood, you will find that you produce more smoke, more ash, and more creosote. Briquettes are best used on their own, providing you with a warm and energy efficient fire to keep you comfortable on cold winter nights.

How to Use Briquettes

Briquettes are excellent for use in a fireplace, wood burning stove, multi-fuel stove, fire pit, or barbecue. All they need to get started is a few pieces of our high quality kindling. Kindling helps the fire take easily, and your briquettes will be burning in no time. Thanks to their long life span, you won’t be needing to maintain your fire as often, while enjoying the wonderful warm the briquettes provide.

If you want a long and slow burn, consider our high quality heat logs. You can add one to two heat logs and enjoy a long and slow burn, gently warming your home, or you can use our brick-like briquettes, adding a few to your fire, offering you long lasting heat, that you can enjoy with your family.

Once the briquettes are lit, they will provide a pleasing flame with a long burn. They are one hundred percent wood, with no chemicals or glues, so you can mix them with logs. We do recommend, if you want to mix them, consider using our kiln-dried logs, that are also Ready to Burn certified, rather than using traditional logs, that have a higher moisture content.
